Mimosa Hall was originally constructed between 1838 and 1840 for the John Dunwody family, among the founding residents of what would become Roswell, Georgia. A planter from Liberty County, Dunwody relocated with his wife and six children and built their home beside Bulloch Hall. The two families, Dunwoody and Major James Bulloch were related by marriage.

Today, Mimosa Hall & Gardens is being transformed into a unique rental venue and is now accepting bookings for events taking place after August 2026. Find out more about Roswell's historic site rentals at www.RoswellGov.com/Rentals. While not operating as a furnished historic house museum, Mimosa Hall will regularly host open houses, programs, and cultural events.

Visitors interested in Roswell’s historic homes are encouraged to explore the city’s three museums: Barrington Hall, Bulloch Hall, and Smith Plantation. For more community events, visit Roswell365.com.

About Mimosa Hall & Gardens

Mimosa Hall is a cornerstone of Roswell's Historic District and one of the few surviving antebellum homes in both Roswell and the Atlanta metro area. Built in the 1840s near Roswell Historic Town Square, the home reflects the city's orgins as a carefully planned community inspired by Savannah, Georgia.

In the 20th century, Mimosa Hall gained new significance under the ownership of renowned Atlanta architect Neel Reid, who modernized the home during his tenure from 1916 until his death in 1926.

Roswell's Historic District received designation by the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Today, Mimosa Hall stands near two other individually listed landmarks, Bulloch Hall and Barrington Hall. All three historic properties are now owned and operated by the City of Roswell, forming a vital part of the city's preserved heritage.

In August 2017, the City of Roswell purchased Mimosa Hall & Gardens for $2.95 million from its last private owner, including a selection of the home's original furnishings. In partnership with the Friends of Mimosa Hall & Gardens, the City installed an integrated solar roof in 2020. The property has since earned Landmark Museum Building Designation from the State of Georgia, following the first major renovation of the first floor.

Continued investment by the City has driven rehabilitation efforts to enhance the house and grounds as a unique and upscale rental, and community venue. These efforts reflect a thoughtful approach, balancing historic preservation, financial stewardship, and public engagement, while honoring Roswell's rich history.
