Welding 101

Learn how to join pieces of metal through the different types of welding! This course will offer an overview of different welding processes emphasizing sound welds with sufficient penetration. Participants are encouraged to bring their own ideas and aesthetics. Creative guidance will focus on the creation of garden/yard art with scrap metal.

Taste of Blacksmithing Workshops

These sampler workshops offer an overview of basic blacksmithing while creating simple, focused projects. Students will gain working knowledge of hammering steel on an anvil and complete small ornamental forms to take home. This taste of blacksmithing may whet your appetite for more in-depth programs.

These courses will introduce beginning and intermediate participants to basic techniques of bladesmithing with forge and anvil. Participants will forge, heat treat, grind and finish custom pieces. No prerequisites or experience necessary.

Vintage Collage-Making Workshop with Megan Reeves Williamson

Join us as we create a spring-inspired collage painting on canvas using vintage book pages! (If you have an old book you would like to incorporate, please bring it to class. Otherwise, old book pages will be provided.) Keep in mind you will be using this book as part of your collage material, so no family heirlooms! A $5 supply fee will be payable to the instructor at the first class.

Crash Course in Lightroom

This is an opportunity to see the fast, efficient, and powerful photo editing software Lightroom in action. This workshop is for those looking to get started in editing their pictures on the computer as well as those looking to advance their skills with the software. Topics will include the modules library, develop, slideshow, and print. We will work on images using several tools and brushes including adjustment, cloning and healing, crop and rotate, and gradient. We will also explore creating and importing presets, exporting images, and general catalog organization, as well as collections. Bring your laptop with Lightroom installed or simply observe.

Crash Course in Photoshop

We will cover many of the basics of Photoshop, including where to find many of the key tools, what they do, and how and why to use them. New users, casual users, more advanced users, or those considering using Photoshop will benefit from the hands-on approach to this software.

Crash Course in Studio Lighting

This workshop is designed for the photographer who wants to understand lighting concepts used in the studio as well as in the field. Topics will include:
  • Using a light meter
  • Setting white balance
  • Understanding shutter, aperture, and ISO settings
  • Selecting light modifiers
  • Shooting with 1,2,3 and 4 light set-ups
  • Choosing lighting equipment and backgrounds
  • Discussing model release forms

Workshops from Pragati Chaudhry with Creative Alchemies

Creative Alchemies workshops provide a space for expression where guided art exercises are shared for eliciting a creative response that encourages the release of emotions. Participants work with paint on canvas and do not need to have prior art experience. They connect with and create from their inner guidance in this energetic space. The process is self-directed and self-interpreted and unique to each individual. The greatest outcome is incredible emotional release and re-integration with yourself. All materials are provided, but you are welcome to bring painting or drawing materials you enjoy working with.

Shibori-Traditional Japanese Indigo Dying with Masako Richey

Do you like to make one-of-a-kind art you can use every day? Come join us to learn how to dye garments using traditional Japanese Indigo dying techniques. We will use U.S. grown natural indigo dye and experience the Shibori technique that has 1400 years of history in Japan. Students will learn several different ways to create different patterns and use them to custom dye their own work. Bring a T-shirt, a blouse, or a pillowcase that is made of a 100% natural material such as cotton, linen, or rayon. Make sure they are pre-washed for better absorbency. They can be new or used. Bring an apron or wear dark colored clothes.

Contemporary Figure Workshop with June Oros

Experience painting from a live, clothed model. Expect to render a painterly, loose image while strengthening figure-drawing skills. Let June guide you and hone your artistic vision, emphasizing design, harmony, light, and shadow. We will work on simplifying the figure into basic shapes to create a work of art with a contemporary edge. Beginners are welcome in this group. Bring your supplies, including a canvas or paper (depending on your medium) no larger than 36x36, and $10 cash for the model fee. Bring a bag lunch as we will break halfway through our time for lunch.
