The Roswell Police Department offers an excellent opportunity for college students majoring in Criminal Justice related degrees. The program has the ability to be tailored for each student depending on the exact needs of the degree the student is working towards, but, generally speaking, the intern will have the opportunity to spend time with Uniform Patrol, the Criminal Investigations Division, the 911 Center, the Property/Evidence Unit, Records, Municipal Court and the Traffic Enforcement Unit.

The Police Department will accept two interns per Spring, Summer and Fall semester, and will hold interviews as necessary to ensure the best candidates are awarded the limited spots.  The internship program is a fantastic avenue for students interested in a law enforcement career since a successful internship with the Roswell Police Department can lead to a leg up in the application process for a full or part time job.

Candidates shall meet the following requirements to be eligible to participate in the program:
  1. Currently enrolled as a student in a Georgia college or university or a Roswell resident student enrolled in an out-of-state college or university.
  2. Pursuing college credit for internship
  3. Completion of Student Intern Program Application, Liability Waiver and Student Intern Work Agreement by the posted deadline.
  4. Successful completion of a background investigation including an oral interview and polygraph examination conducted by the Roswell Police Department.  High risk areas to be addressed in the investigation process include:
    1. Current and past drug usage, sale, distribution and manufacture
    2. Current and past alcohol usage
    3. Open/pending criminal cases
    4. Serious criminal case convictions
    5. Serious undetected crimes
The final decision on acceptance of an intern candidate will be made by the Chief of Police or designee.
