This morning, July 8, 2016, at just before 1:00 AM, a Roswell Police Officer on routine patrol in the area of Old Roswell Rd and Commerce Pkwy was shot at from a passing vehicle. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle and a short pursuit ensued resulting in the suspect crashing his stolen Ford Explorer on Commerce Pkwy. The suspect was taken into custody. There were no reported injuries and no bullets struck the patrol vehicle.

Due to initial information that there was a possible second person involved, a perimeter was set and search conducted with the help of the Alpharetta Police Department, Cobb County Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and a helicopter from the Atlanta Police Department. The investigation then revealed that the subject already in custody was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The suspect has been identified as 21 year old VICTOR ALONZO MAJIA NUNEZ of Riverdale. MAJIA NUNEZ was transported to the Roswell Detention Center where he has been speaking with detectives but his cooperation has been limited. The investigation is ongoing but information on a motive is not available and the weapon used has not yet been recovered. Charges are pending but will likely include Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Possession of Methamphetamine, Reckless Driving, Fleeing & Eluding and others related to the stolen vehicle.

Roswell Police Case # 1607000260.
