Native American History with Jim Sawgrass at Bulloch Hall

Southern Trilogy Logo
Friends of Bulloch Hall hosts this special event which focuses on the native people who were the ancient inhabitants of the area where Roswell is located today. Jim Sawgrass, a Muskogee Creek tribal member, presents an array of artifacts and reproductions while discussing Creek culture from ancient times through the historic period.

Jim Sawgrass has been teaching about Creek culture for over 30 years. His exhibit contains over one hundred artifacts and reproductions which illustrate the Southeastern Indians' history and culture. Dressed in his tribal clothing, Sawgrass demonstrates various aspects of ancient culture such as tools and weapons, fire-starting, hunting skills, and cooking utensils. His story highlights the Creeks first encountering European Americans, the two groups' cooperation and conflict, as well as the removal period in the nineteenth century.
