Introduction
All residential and commercial businesses wishing to locate in Roswell must make application and register with the Business Registration Office prior to opening their business.Location and Information
Before applying for an Occupational Tax Certificate from the City of Roswell, potential applicants are urged to contact the State of Georgia’s Secretary of State’s Office concerning their business.
If the applicant is applying for a City of Roswell Occupational Tax Certificate for a business that is licensed by the Secretary of State, the applicant must include a copy of this license with the certificate application. For information on licensing by the State of Georgia, the Secretary of State’s Office for Professional Licensing Boards is (678) 207-1300. The State of Georgia’s website also allows for online business registration under the Online Services category.
In addition, if the applicant is specifically seeking a City of Roswell Occupational Tax Certificate for a massage business, the applicant must include a copy of this accreditation or certificate with the City of Roswell’s Occupational Tax Certificate application.
If the applicant’s business is licensed by any other professional licensing organization, proof of this license must also be included with the Occupational Tax Certificate application. With the exception of information available for the current year, which is available by phone, the City of Roswell requires anyone requesting information on previously registered businesses to submit an Open Records Request form to the City Clerk’s Office. The form may be mailed or faxed to:

The Open Records Request form is available on this site as a download. Any fees due for preparation and reproduction costs must be paid by the requestor when the information is picked up from the Clerk’s office.
Occupational Tax Certificate Applications

Upon submission of your application and securing the appropriate approvals, you will be issued an Occupation Tax Certificate – formerly known as “a business license.”

Renewals:
Certificates must be renewed annually and renewal notices will be mailed to existing business owners in September of each year.

Taxi Operators Permit (Residential & Non Residential)
The Roswell Police Permit Department, located at 39 Hill Street, Roswell, GA, is open 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for the issuance of permits for alcohol pouring and handling, solicitation, taxi driving and massage therapy. Fingerprinting, Requests for Criminal Histories, Request for Expungements and Alcohol Beverage License Applications may also be obtained. For further information, call 770-640-4100.
To obtain a permit as a driver of a taxi in the City of Roswell, an applicant comes to the Police Permits Department between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. or 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The driver applicant is required to fill out an application card allowing a background check and present (1) a completed vehicle inspection form, (2) a valid Class C Georgia driver’s license which will be verified, (3) a copy of his/hers current driver’s history and (4) a copy of the insurance declaration page attesting to current insurance. The fee for the permit is $150 annually for an operator permit and $350 annually for a taxi sticker. For further information, call 770-640-4100.

Please note that information on the City’s issuance of Occupational Tax Certificates is available as a download on this site under the heading “Additional Links.” The updated list of certificates will be posted on this site by the end of the first week of the month following the closing of the previous month. Because the City is now posting this information to this site, monthly emails containing this list will no longer be issued as those interested in the City’s issuance of Occupational Tax Certificates can view and print the list directly.
