January 11, 2010
For most of us the New Year presents a time to reflect on our many blessings over the past year. As we celebrate the holidays and look to the New Year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on all of our accomplishments and experiences of 2009. During the difficult economic challenges that touched our lives in 2009, the Great City of Roswell continues to enjoy growth and stability. We have made it through a year of unprecedented change in our community, our organization and our personal lives, change that in itself is history-making.
In 2010 we will work hard to drive down crime while continuing to police in a fair and constitutional manner, and we will do all that we can to prepare for and prevent acts of terrorism. The citizens of this city expect us to give them the best policing value possible for the precious dollars they are spending. We intend to make the best use of your tax dollars.
The Roswell Police Department is proud to maintain its national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Our personnel continue their commitment to the CALEA ideal of excellence in going far beyond the line of duty, and always exceeding expectations. This is what excellence is all about. It comes from striving, maintaining the highest standards, caring about our citizens, and going the extra mile.
I would also like to take time to remember the Roswell Police Department employees who continue to serve in the United States armed forces. Many of them have not been with their family and friends for the holidays for several years. I am struck by the extraordinary sacrifices they and their families make to serve our country on foreign soil and here in our communities. We wish them a safe tour and pray that they return home soon.
This year we sadly said good bye to Danny Redmond, a partner and friend who passed away in 2009. As members of our Roswell PD family, we continue to keep him alive in our hearts.
At this time of year many of us reflect on our own lives and renew our commitment to each other and the causes we believe in. We look for opportunities to give thanks and aspire to help those who need it most. I encourage everyone to support the fine men and women of the Roswell Police Department who sacrifice their lives every day in order to preserve the safety and security of our citizens. I would like to thank each one of you, sworn and civilian, for all that you do to make the City of Roswell a great place to work and live.
