Notice of Property Tax Increase

Tentative Millage Rate

The Mayor and Council of the City of Roswell have tentatively adopted a millage rate (tax rate) which will require an increase in property taxes by 3.93 percent.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 5.205 mills, an increase of 0.197 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 5.008 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $300,000 is approximately $23.64 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $500,000 is approximately $39.40.

Tax Increase Explanation

Your total property tax rate, or millage rate, will remain the same as last year at 5.455. The city has paid off a portion of its bonded debt, which reduced its annual debt payments. Because of this, the portion of your tax rate that went toward paying debt will now pay for City maintenance and operations. Like any business, the City of Roswell has seen an increase in the cost of doing business which must be met if it is to continue providing high levels of service to our residents. The City prides itself on being fiscally responsible and has kept the tax rate the same for the past nine years even during the downturn in the economy when other governments in the area raised tax rates.
