Houze/Hembree Roundabout Repaving

A repaving project at the roundabout at Houze (State Route 140) and Hembree Roads will affect traffic when it starts the week of December 11. Although the new roundabout was recently opened, a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) inspection has determined the asphalt laid by a GDOT contractor does not meet state standards.

GDOT has instructed the contractor to repave the new roundabout. The cost of the asphalt replacement will be covered by the contractor.

Work to remove and replace the pavement may begin as early as Monday, December 11, but the start and completion of this work is heavily dependent on the weather. To properly install asphalt, the air temperature must be above 40 degrees. With temperatures expected to dip down into the 30s in coming days, the contractor will be closely monitoring the forecast and will proceed accordingly. The repaving may require several days to complete, depending on weather.

The roundabout will remain open, but drivers should expect temporary lane closures and are advised to stay alert and use caution.
